Solutions for Education:

Fully Funding K-12 &

Rehiring Teachers

K-12 level education funding has been drastically cut again and again. A Public Bank can fully fund our K-12 education system.

Please read below and watch the short videos on what a Public Bank is, and please vote for Ed Heflin.

First let’s give you an historical perspective.

Back in the 1980’s and before you didn’t have to worry about getting your child into a school. In the 1960’s the US education system was the best in the world and you simply took your kid to the nearest school and signed them up. No waiting lists or applications. It was easy and you could rely on your child getting an excellent education.

These days we have oversized classes and thousands of teachers have been laid off.

The teachers who are fortunate enough to be employed are paid poorly, overworked, and often spend their own money for basic teaching supplies like pencils and paper.

Concerned parents often spend a lot of money, time, and energy trying to get their children into a good school that will give them a quality education.

K-12 school districts that are desperately in need of money have been forced to borrow at interest rates of 300% or more, which imposed eves more massive debt on future generations.

One of the leading minds in the world of education is a brilliant woman named Diane Ravitch. In the videos below she does a great job of summing up the issues facing K-12 education.

In short, the biggest issues facing K-12 schools currently … are poverty and underfunding.

Poverty:

23% of the children in the US live in poverty and the numbers are much higher amongst African-American, American Indian, and Latinos.

If you look closely at the research on children that perform poorly in school, you will find almost all of them live in poverty. If a child comes to school hungry because they didn’t have enough food, or not rested because their living situation isn’t consistent (or they’re homeless), or maybe they have recently moved so their social group isn’t stable, then they have a much more difficult time staying focused in class. Under these common conditions, there really isn’t much educating a teacher can do.

Underfunding:

Schools have been facing budget cut after cut for decades now, teachers have been laid off, and school districts are forced to prioritize their tight budgets over the quality of their education.

When you have more than 25-30 kids in a class it is well known that the students are much more difficult to keep focused, and the amount of attention each student gets is less; this also decreases a students chance of getting the  help they need to succeed in school.

Education is a basic human right and any parent knows that a high-quality education gives their child a much better chance at being successful and happy
